Development in Gardening (DIG) traditionally works in impoverished communities, which are often littered with trash and wasted space. Our mission is to extend gardening techniques, nutritional knowledge and practical resources that transform these discarded spaces into spaces of abundance.
DIG teaches communities how to garden with very limited resources and almost always incorporates found and recycled materials into the transformation of the land.
DIG’s Garbage to Greens approach includes:
- Transforming unused/vacant spaces into lush gardens
- Reusing discarded cans and bottles for growing containers
- Collecting animal droppings for fertilizer and compost material
- Creating gardens that require minimal expense and are easily replicated and maintained
